How to add a blurred background to a photo
- Drop your photo. The tool starts with Fit, blur: the whole photo stays visible.
- Choose the format: 4:5 for the feed, 1:1 for a square, 9:16 for Stories and Reels.
- Set the blur strength and how much the background is darkened. A darker, softer background makes the photo stand out.
- Drag the photo to move it inside the frame if you want it off centre, then download.
When a blurred background is the right choice
- A landscape photo for a 4:5 or 9:16 frame that you do not want to crop.
- A vertical photo for a square post.
- A screenshot or a wide image that must stay complete.
Tips for a clean result
- Use a little darkening, about 10 to 25 percent. It separates the photo from its background.
- A strong blur looks calm, a weak one looks like a ghost image behind the photo. Move the slider until it reads as a soft colour field.
- If the bars would be small, Crop to fill in the image resizer may look cleaner.
What happens to your photos?
Nothing leaves your device. Your browser reads, blurs and exports the photos itself, so there is no upload and no server involved. You can check it yourself: open the network tab of your browser while you use the tool, and you will see no image request.
