How to resize an image for Instagram
- Drop one or several images. Settings apply to all of them, and you can move the crop of each image separately.
- Choose the format. 4:5 is the feed default, 1:1 is the square, 9:16 is for Stories and Reels. Custom takes any size from 100 to 6000 px.
- Choose how the image fills the frame: Crop to fill cuts the edges, Fit keeps the whole image and fills the rest with a colour or with a blurred copy of the image.
- Download the image, or a ZIP when you added several.
Which size for which job
- 4:5, 1080 × 1350 px: the portrait default for feed posts and carousel slides.
- 3:4, 1080 × 1440 px: a slightly taller format that matches the 3:4 crop of the profile grid.
- 1:1, 1080 × 1080 px: the classic square.
- 9:16, 1080 × 1920 px: Stories and Reels.
- 1.91:1, 1080 × 566 px: wide landscape images.
Crop or fit?
Crop to fill gives a clean frame but cuts the edges of the photo. Fit keeps everything and adds bars, which look best in a matching colour or as a blurred copy of the photo. If the photo has a face near the edge, use Fit or move the crop by dragging the preview.
Why the ratio matters more than the pixels
Instagram crops every slide of a carousel to the ratio of the first one. A photo in the wrong ratio gets cut by the app, where you cannot control it. Resizing it here first lets you choose what is cut. Export at 1080 px width as a normal image file, because Instagram re-compresses every upload.
What happens to your images?
Nothing leaves your device. Your browser reads, resizes and exports the images itself, so there is no upload and no server involved. HEIC photos from an iPhone are converted in your browser as well. You can check it yourself: open the network tab of your browser while you use the tool, and you will see no image request.
FAQ
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 × 1350 px (4:5) is the portrait default. 1080 × 1080 px is the square, and 1080 × 1920 px is for Stories and Reels.
Can I resize several images at once?
Yes. Drop as many as you like, up to 30, and download them as one ZIP. The settings apply to all of them.
How do I fit a photo without cropping it?

Is the resizer free?
