PSD to Canva
Prepare a Photoshop file for Canva. Get the full image as JPG or PNG, every layer as its own PNG in a ZIP, and the texts and fonts from your text layers. It runs in your browser, needs no signup, and nothing is uploaded.
- Nothing is uploaded
- No signup, no watermark
- Works on your phone
- 1Drop a PSD file
- 2Pick flat or layers
- 3Download for Canva
Turn it into a finished post: in the Postd editor you add text, your brand and a posting date. Images from this tool come along.
Continue in the editorTexts and fonts
From the text layers of your file. Canva needs the fonts in its library or in your brand kit, and you retype the text there.
Private by design: your files are processed in this browser tab and are never uploaded. Close the tab and they are gone.
Try Canva's own import first
Canva lists PSD among the files it can import. Its help pages disagree on the details: newer pages say layers, gradients and masks are supported with some elements flattened, older pages say layers are not supported. Upload the PSD to Canva first and look at the result. This tool is for the cases where that does not work or does not look right: the file is too big, the layers arrive flattened, or you want the pieces yourself.
How to use it
- Drop your PSD file, or tap to choose it. The tool shows the canvas size, the number of layers and a preview.
- Choose "Flat image" for one JPG or PNG, or "Layers (ZIP)" for every visible layer as its own PNG with transparency.
- In Canva, create a design with the pixels the tool shows (Custom size), upload the files and drop them onto the page.
- With "Full canvas, position kept" every layer has the size of the canvas, so the pieces usually line up when you place them at full size.
What you get
The flat image comes from the merged image inside the PSD when Photoshop saved one (the option is called maximum compatibility). If it is missing or looks wrong, switch to "The layers" and the tool builds the image from the layers. The ZIP holds one PNG per visible layer, bottom layer first, with the layer's opacity applied. It also holds ebenen.txt with name, position, size, opacity and blend mode of each layer, and texte.txt with the text, font, size and colour of every text layer.
What does not come along
Text layers arrive as pictures. The live text stays in Photoshop, so for editable text in Canva you retype it from the list and pick the font there. Layer masks, layer styles such as shadows or strokes, adjustment layers and filters are not applied in the single layers, and the tool tells you how many layers are affected. Smart objects arrive as the pixels Photoshop shows. RGB with 8 bit is the safe case, other colour modes may not read.
Your PSD is not uploaded
Most online converters send your file to a server. This one does not. The first time you drop a PSD, the page loads a reader of about 1 MB from postd.ai. After that your browser does all the work. You can check it: open the network tab while you convert, and you will see no request that carries your file.
The other way: Canva to PSD
Canva has no PSD export. A common workaround is to download the design as PDF Print, open it in the free browser editor Photopea and save it as PSD. Check the layers afterwards, because text and effects may not come across the way you built them.
FAQ
How do I convert a PSD to Canva?
Upload the PSD to Canva first, since Canva can import it. If the import fails or flattens your layers, use this tool to get the full image or the layers as PNG, upload them to Canva and rebuild the text.
Does Canva open PSD files?
Canva names PSD as a file it can import. Its help pages differ on layers and size limits, so test your own file.
Will my text layers be editable in Canva?
Not through this tool. Text layers come as pictures. The tool lists the text and fonts so you can retype them in Canva.
Is my PSD uploaded?
No. The file is read in your browser and nothing is sent to a server.
Can I convert a Canva design to PSD?
Canva has no PSD export. A common workaround is to download PDF Print and open it in Photopea, then save as PSD.
