How to preview your Instagram grid
- Drop the images of your next posts. The first image is your newest post, shown top left.
- Click a tile to select it, then move it with the buttons. With a mouse you can drag tiles into place.
- Switch between 3:4, 1:1 and 4:5 tiles to see how the grid crops your images.
- Turn the profile header on or off, pick dark or light, and download the preview to show a client or your team.
What the grid shows
The profile grid shows every post as a 3:4 thumbnail, whatever its original ratio. A 4:5 post is slightly wider than that, so it loses a thin strip on the left and on the right, about 3 percent per side. A square post loses a quarter of its width. The preview crops your images the same way, so you see what the grid will really show.
Tips for planning a grid
- Plan in rows of three. The three newest posts always sit together, so decide which ones belong next to each other.
- Keep the subject near the centre of the image, because the sides are cropped in the grid.
- Alternate busy and calm images, or repeat one colour, so the grid does not feel crowded.
- Check carousels by their first slide. That slide is the one the grid shows.
What happens to your images?
Nothing leaves your device. Your browser reads and arranges the images itself, so there is no upload and no server involved. That also makes it safe for unreleased content. You can check it yourself: open the network tab of your browser while you use the tool, and you will see no image request.
