Canva Seamless Carousel: How to Split a Wide Design Into Slides

Updated: October 2026 · Diesen Artikel auf Deutsch lesen

A seamless carousel is one wide image that keeps going as people swipe from slide to slide. As far as we checked, Canva has no feature of its own for it (as of October 2026). It still works if you fix the dimensions first and shift nothing when you split.

The maths: slides times 1080

Every slide is 1080 pixels wide and 1350 pixels tall. The width of your design is the number of slides times 1080.

SlidesDesign widthHeight
22160 px1350 px
33240 px1350 px
44320 px1350 px
55400 px1350 px
66480 px1350 px
77560 px1350 px

Canva limits the size of a page, most recently to 8000 pixels. Check the limit in your account. At 1080 pixels per slide that comes to seven slides. For more, set the design up at half size (540 × 675 per slide) and choose 2× when you download. Choosing the size is a Pro feature in Canva.

Step by step in Canva

  1. Create a custom size. The width from the table, height 1350, unit pixels.
  2. Put a guide layer on it. From our guide pack take the file with your number of slides, for example panorama-3-slides-3240x1350.png. Upload it, drag it onto the page, lock it. Blue lines show the seams, and every slide has a 50 pixel margin. Alternatively show the rulers with Shift+R and drag guides to 1080, 2160 and so on. The guide layer is more exact because it sits precisely on the seams.
  3. Design across the full width. The background image runs over all slides. Keep type and faces away from the seams unless an element should run across two slides on purpose.
  4. Remove the guide layer. Delete it, or duplicate the page and download only the clean copy.
  5. Download as PNG. You get one wide file.
  6. Split it. The carousel splitter cuts it into equal slides: drop the image, choose the number of slides and the 4:5 format, 1080 pixels per slide, download all as a ZIP. The files are named 01, 02, 03 and already sit in the right order.
  7. Upload. In the Instagram app, select the slides in that order.

What goes wrong when you split

The width is not exact. If the image is one pixel narrower or wider than slides times 1080, every tool cuts crooked or rescales. Check the dimensions of the downloaded file before you split.

The first slide stands alone in the profile grid. There it is shown at 3:4, and a 4:5 slide loses about 34 pixels on each side. What slide 1 has to carry belongs in the middle.

Different formats. Instagram crops all slides to the format of the first. If you split at 4:5, everything stays 4:5.

Type on a seam. A word that runs across two slides is the effect you want. In the feed view of the first slide, though, only half the word shows. Build the opening so slide 1 works on its own.

The way without splitting in Postd

Postd has a panorama layout: one photo runs across several slides, and the neighbouring slides can be shown faded next to the current one. Type, logo and brand stay on every slide, with no download and no splitting. The number of slides changes in the layout without you doing any maths. The Free plan allows up to 5 slides, Pro up to 20, which is Instagram's maximum. Pro costs €6.99 a month or €69 a year. Open the editor without an account.

FAQ

How do I split a Canva design into several Instagram slides?

Create the design at slides times 1080 pixels wide and 1350 pixels tall, download it as PNG and cut it into equal parts with a splitter tool. Upload the parts as a carousel in the order 01, 02, 03.

Does Canva have a feature for seamless carousels?

As far as we checked, no, as of October 2026. You build a wide design and split it yourself. Check Canva's help center to see whether that has changed.

How wide does my Canva design need to be for a 3-slide panorama?

3240 pixels wide and 1350 pixels tall, which is three times 1080 by 1350. For four slides it is 4320, for five 5400 pixels wide.

How many slides can a seamless carousel have?

Instagram allows up to 20 slides per carousel. In Canva the page size limit sets a ceiling at about seven slides at 1080 pixels each. A half-size design with a 2× export gets you further.
